The big “peated bad boy” in the Core Range range is in fact a “wild whisky”. Coming from a very old Highlands distillery usually known for their floral and light single malt, it's one of those rare smoky experimental batches that they sometimes try to exceed our expectations with. The spirit's organic character in question finds an intense leathery nature in the sherry casks used for the finish, rich in black licorice and earthy notes. Despite the intensively peated approach, you can still find the floral notes and the delicate scent that is so typical of the distillery. But of course it's big, loud, not particularly winey, but very tannic, with a hint of herbal bitterness. Distinctly ashy and definitely unlike any other peated malt you can imagine.
