Supplying smugglers with spirits during Prohibition, Napoleon III. Hiding in the cellar, weighing the poet Lord Byron on the large coffee scales: Founded in 1698, Berry Bros. & Rudd looks back on an astonishing company history. The London institution stands for more than 300 years of expertise in the field of premium spirits and is a supplier to the British royal family. Want to get to know the individual character of iconic Scottish distilleries? The family business makes this possible with the small batch series. A new bottling in the series now heads to the south of the town of Elgin, where the Glen Elgin Distillery is surrounded by the green of Speyside. Completed in 1898, it was the last distillery built during the boom period of the 1890s. To this day she uses a “wormtub condenser” – a cooling system that has become rare and makes the raw spirit heavier and fuller-bodied. The soft, fruity character of their single malts is also reflected in the Glen Elgin 2014/2023: typical notes of jam as well as apples and pears are complemented on the nose by crème brûlée and cream with sweet spices. On the strong, full-bodied palate there is a harmonious balance between fruit and oak. A characterful dram that will make you wonder why Glen Elgin isn't one of the biggest names in the Scottish whiskey industry...
