Nein, dieses lebende Fossil ist von allem etwas und daher gänzlich einzigartig: ein Schnabeltier (engl. platypus)! Die Verkörperung eines biologischen Kuriosums gehört zur Klasse der Säugetiere, legt aber trotzdem Eier. Okay … Dieser eigensinnigen Praxis folgt das Tierchen mit Paddelfüßen, Pelz und Schnabel ausschließlich im Osten und Südosten Australiens.

Spannend, rar, komplex und unvergesslich – das sind Eigenschaften, mit denen sich auch der unabhängige Abfüller FRC bestens auskennt. Nach der Quokka Edition, einer flüssigen Hommage an das beschwingte Beuteltier, widmet FRC nun mit dem Schnabeltier der nächsten australischen Tierart einen eigenen Rum.

Für die Platypus Edition 7 y.o. arbeiteten die Norddeutschen erneut mit Australiens ältester registrierter Brennerei zusammen. Die Beenleigh Artisan Distillers brannten den Small-Batch-Rum aus Melasse in Column wie auch Pot Still und lagerten ihn fünf Jahre unter der australischen Sonne in Bourbon Casks. Zur komplexen Krönung wurde das limitierte Erlebnis für zwei Jahre auf dem europäischen Kontinent in Oloroso und Pedro Ximénez Sherry Casks veredelt.

FRC dedicates a special Australian edition to the platypus

Ah, a bipolar beaver? An estranged duck, perhaps? Or maybe an otter gone astray? No, this living fossil is a bit of everything and therefore entirely unique: a platypus! The embodiment of a biological curiosity belongs to the class of mammals, yet it still lays eggs. Okay… The little creature with webbed feet, fur, and a bill follows this idiosyncratic practice exclusively in eastern and southeastern Australia.

Exciting, rare, complex, and unforgettable – these are qualities that the independent bottler FRC knows all too well. Following the Quokka Edition, a liquid homage to the spirited marsupial, FRC is now dedicating a rum to the next Australian animal species with the platypus.

For the Platypus Edition 7 y.o., the Northern Germans once again collaborated with Australia’s oldest registered distillery. Beenleigh Artisan Distillers distilled the small-batch rum from molasses in both column and pot stills and aged it for five years under the Australian sun in bourbon casks. For a complex crowning touch, the limited experience was finished for two years on the European continent in Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks.
