“Made by nature, not by rules” is the motto of the independent whiskey distillery, which can rightly be described as an exception . Creative, a bit rebellious and with a female perspective, Nc'nean approaches the production of their Organic Single Malt Scotch from regional organic barley and quickly rewrites the rules of an established spirits category.

The distillery is named after “Neachneohain”, a Gaelic goddess and protector of nature . It was founded by Annabel Thomas . With Nc'nean, the entrepreneur turned her dream of a modern, sustainable whiskey distillery into reality. In 2013, she quit her job in London, raised around £7.5m and began converting her family's remote farm. Since 2017, distillation has been taking place on the coast of the beautiful Morvern peninsula, in the heart of the Highlands.

With their uncompromising focus on sustainability, Nc'nean leads the Scotch industry in environmental awareness. The subtle greenish clear glass bottle with minimalist, natural watercolor decor helps close the loop in the glass industry and reduce the carbon footprint of each bottle by an astonishing 40 percent . The shrink capsules are made of cellulose , are attached when wet and contract when dry.

As a proud “zero-waste distillery”, Nc'nean recycles around 99 percent of the waste generated. The distillery is also the first in the UK to achieve net zero emissions for production - exceeding the Scottish whiskey industry's 2040 target by almost 20 years.
