Viele Genießer wissen es nicht: Zuckerrohr stammt ursprünglich aus Südostasien. Zu den weltweit führenden Erzeugern von Zuckerrohr gehört zum Beispiel Thailand. Seit der Jungsteinzeit wird das Süßgras hier kultiviert. Diesem Erbe zollt der Shakara 12 y.o. Tribut, benannt nach dem Sanskrit-Wort „shakar“ für „Zucker, Süße“.

Der traditionelle Thai Rum wird in der zentralen Provinz Nakhom Pathom aus regionaler Melasse hergestellt und lange in Bourbon Barrels gelagert. Im tropischen Klima der fruchtbaren Region reift er intensiv: Die Kombination aus hohen Durchschnittstemperaturen und einer Luftfeuchtigkeit zwischen 60 und 80 Prozent konzentriert die Aromen und verleiht Shakara einen tiefen, vollmundigen Geschmack.

Der Verzicht auf Zucker oder Farbstoffe macht den Rum dabei zum authentischen Botschafter des thailändischen Terroirs, zu dem er Fans der Premium-Kategorie luxuriös verpackt die Tür öffnet.
