Why is the Aberfeldy Distillery located in the picturesque Highlands of Perthshire? A special water source was a strong argument from the founders Tommy and John Alexander Dewar. Near the whisky distillery, a small river flows into the Tay, which is known not only for its outstanding water quality , but also for its (at least legendary) gold deposits . Aberfeldy whisky? The Golden Drama! This is clearly expressed in the attractive bottle in black and gold.
 
This week it includes a connoisseur bottling from the Exceptional Cask Series , selected by Malt Master Stephanie Macleod. The Aberfeldy 16 yo is indeed exceptional : After initial maturation in Bourbon casks, the Highlanders aged the single malt for more than 12 months in a former red wine barrel , pre-filled with one of the most famous wines in Bordeaux: Saint-Julien . The finish combines the honeyed sweetness of the whiskey with luscious dark fruits, elegantly balanced with almond oil and toasted grains.
